About
Matthew Klein is a landscape photographer and visual storyteller deeply connected to Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks. His work is shaped by time spent on the trails, an appreciation for seasonal change, and a commitment to capturing these landscapes with care and respect.
An avid hiker, Matthew has spent years exploring the parks in all conditions, developing a perspective that goes beyond the overlook and into the quieter, lesser-seen moments. In 2022, he joined the Starved Rock Foundation Board of Directors and currently serves as Foundation President, leading initiatives that support preservation, education, and visitor experience.
He also created the annual Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Park calendar fundraiser, which has raised over $40,000 in support of the parks.
Matthew is also a Co-Founder of Starved Rock Hikers, a community-driven organization focused on sharing trail information, park resources, and a deeper understanding of the landscape. When he’s not hiking or photographing the parks, he’s often editing images or videos at a local coffee shop, planning the next visit back into the canyons.
